Crystalbrook Kingsley Hotel, Newcastle, Australia
Project - Crystalbrook Kingsley Hotel
Location - Newcastle, Australia
Designer - Suede Interior Design
Architect - EJE Architecture
The Crystalbrook Kingsley opened in June 2021 as Newcastle's first five-star hotel. The building was previously a council administrative office, but EJE Architecture and Suede Design were commissioned to transform this unique and iconic building into a 130 room luxury hotel. Havwoods worked closely with the Newcastle and Melbourne project teams to provide bespoke flooring solutions to meet their specific design brief.
Product Used: HW3621 Venture Plank Medio and bespoke Oak Kingsley Herringbone.
Havwoods products feature both in the restaurant and the hotel rooms.
The Round House restaurant which takes pride of place on the top level of the hotel has exquisite views of Newcastle’s harbour, coastline and beyond to the Hunter Valley. The flooring selected here was Medio from our Venture Plank Collection. This product has a warmth and character that compliments the design of the space. This product is made in Europe and eco-friendly with a Cradle-to-Cradle certification.
In the hotel rooms a bespoke herringbone floor was created for the project. This was designed to match other elements in the sophisticated guest space including the herringbone tiles in the bathroom and a custom stain colour to meet the designer’s requirements.
Havwoods were selected as a partner on this project due to being able to create a custom solution that was of high quality and appropriate for a commercial setting.
Havwoods also had the ability to work across multiple locations with the various project owners, including in Newcastle with the Newcastle based architect and builder and Melbourne with the Melbourne based designer.
The Crystalbrook Kingsley Hotel project has since won multiple awards including Hotel of the Year (Conversion) and Paul Davis Award from The 2022 Australasia-Pacific Hotel Design Awards and Award for Commercial Architecture, as well as Interior Architecture from the Australian Institute of Architects Newcastle Chapter.
Havwoods engineered timber boards can be utilised as internal flooring or cladding and are perfect to add style and character to any hospitality project.
