Materials for a Life at Sea
When KM Yacht Builders set out to construct the bespoke Bestevaer 62 ‘Luskentyre’ for a UK couple with a passion for long-distance exploration, performance and durability were key. Having previously sailed with a composite yacht, the owners wanted something more robust, better suited for remote cruising.
The resulting design, led by Mark Blythe, emphasizes a warm and functional interior layout, including three bedrooms, a bathroom, and a spacious open plan kitchen-diner. Central to the interior’s aesthetic is the consistent use of wood finishes, creating a harmonious flow from cabin to cabin.
Reclaimed with a Purpose
To enhance the yacht’s welcoming atmosphere, the team chose Havwoods’ RECM2120 Beck from the Relik collection. These reclaimed engineered boards provide a smoky grey tone and weathered texture, perfectly aligning with the vessel’s traditional styling. Their resistance to moisture, rot, and warping makes them especially suited for life on the water. Easy to clean and full of character, Beck adds depth and visual interest to every surface it covers, bringing beauty and practicality to this sophisticated sailing home.
