Awarded ‘Home of the Year’ in The Daily Telegraph Homebuilding & Renovating Awards 2023, this modern self-build home champions contemporary and eco-friendly design from the inside out. Originally a tired bungalow, the homeowners worked with designer Charlie Luxton Design to transform the property, using its original foundation, into a minimalist and pared-back home suitable for modern living.

Sustainability and natural materials remain at the forefront of the design. This includes triple glazed windows and doors, concealed external solar blinds and plenty of insulation. Outside, the garden designer carefully considered the surrounding environment and planted native species suitable for the local soil type. Inside, the homeowners champion Scandinavian-inspired decor where wood is centre stage – resulting in a clean, calm and contemporary environment.
Upstairs in the bedrooms and hallway, Havwoods’ Blanco Character 260mm 1-strip planks provide a soft, platinum colourway that pairs beautifully with the neutral colour palette. The subtle detailing of the planks not only add texture but help reflect the light in each room.
Bright, airy and sleek, the flooring complements the wood panelled walls of the master bedroom which have been paired with cream and taupe furnishings, alongside contrasting black elements including the large windows, sockets and lighting.
