When tasked with redesigning a mid-century home in the picturesque Surrey countryside, Three Reasons Interior Design set out to strike a delicate balance between honoring the property’s architectural origins and creating a contemporary home tailored to the client’s lifestyle.
For this project, Havwoods’ HW2045 Holme in Herringbone was selected. Its light, neutral tones provided the perfect foundation for a luxurious, yet natural aesthetic, avoiding the yellow undertones often associated with oak.
Dubbed “Naturally Retro,” the design concept paid homage to the home’s mid-century roots while modernizing the interiors to reflect a relaxed, contemporary vibe. Key architectural updates included replacing the original stone-clad fireplace with a dramatic double-height split-faced quartz feature and concealing the ceiling beams to streamline the space. The teak staircase and balustrades were replaced with glass and oak, opening the area and creating a seamless flow between rooms.
With a keen focus on the natural surroundings, the client—a passionate gardener—wanted the home to embrace indoor-outdoor living. The flooring's light tones and organic warmth played a crucial role in connecting the interior design to the lush gardens beyond. This holistic approach ensured the property stood out among neighboring homes while remaining deeply in tune with its environment.
The Cranleigh project marked the designer’s first collaboration with Havwoods. Introduced through an event in the Chelsea Design Quarter, the brand impressed with its range, quality, and exceptional customer service. The availability of HW2045 Holme in the desired herringbone format further provided Havwoods as the ideal choice for achieving an upmarket look that complemented the property’s bespoke design.
