The Northern Ramparts, Fort Corblets in Alderney, set on the coast of the Channel Islands is a flooring project that involved the complete re-flooring of approximately 300 square meters.
Soup Architects, led by Architect Max Babbé, was approached to design an accessible replacement dwelling for the existing timber and stone structures which were beginning to deteriorate due to the harsh Atlantic weather.
The goal was to replace and combine the fragmented structures with a new, high-quality dwelling that was sympathetic to its historic setting. The design brief needed a beautiful and functional wooden floor throughout. Special consideration was given to the fact that the building was circular and therefore had no straight lines where the parquet was to meet the wall.
This was the first time the team had worked with Havwoods, but they chose to work with the company based on the recommendation of Dominic Ash, who designed the kitchen and all the interior woodwork.
The chosen product was Roanne Classic Chevron from the Havwoods PurePlank Collection. This product was chosen for the project because of the way it looked and felt offering excellent value, as well as being FSC® (FSC-C009500) certified timber. The end result was a beautiful and functional wooden floor that added to the aesthetic appeal of the building.
