Located in the heart of the beautiful, rolling Peak District, The Devonshire Arms in Hartington is a welcoming pub and restaurant. Boasting luxury accommodation set within beautiful surroundings, the Grade II listed building sits right in the heart of the village, offering the perfect place for visitors to stop and relax.
The design brief was a full refurbishment to the Grade II building, including updating the existing pub through reviving the dining area and forming a more functional bar area. In addition, three new bedrooms were to be created and the manager’s accommodation was to be relocated, all while staying within the listed building framework.
Now a timeless yet contemporary space greets visitors, featuring natural surfaces, calming textures and the beauty of Havwoods wood flooring and cladding. The warm interiors encourage people to sit back and relax, in a cosy environment that feels like an extension of their home.
The herringbone pattern wood from Havwoods was included in the design brief from the very start, as its variety of rich tones was ideal for adding warm tones to the area and supplying a luxurious, but natural, feel. The natural knots and twists of the Venture Plank was chosen due to the color of the wood complementing the herringbone, as well as working nicely alongside the cladding on the bar - and being hardwearing for muddy walking boots and dogs! The rustic cladding was selected as it provided the perfect finish for the aesthetic the designers wished to achieve.
New signage and decorations sympathetically enhance the external character and appearance of The Devonshire Arms and a complete new external landscape design has transformed the rear beer garden to complete the scheme.
