Wood Flooring Texture
With so many different types of wood flooring, it’s important to understand what makes each type unique - such as the wood's texture. Texture is not only how the floor looks, but also how it physically feels. Havwoods achieves different wood flooring textures but using processes like sanding, brushing, distressing, sawing and scraping to create characterisitcs in the wood's surface.
Wood flooring textures also add a visual elements that can compliment many interior design styles from rustic, to beachy, natural and more.
SANDED:
Flat and smooth feeling. The sanding process eliminates indentation and texture variation on the surface of the wood.
BAND SAWN:
Looks rough, with line marks from the saw left on the boards. The wood is sanded after so while it appears rustic, it’s actually soft to touch.
HAND SCULPTED:
Contains saw marks, and is then sanded by hand for one-of-a-kind appearance.
DISTRESSED:
The wood goes into a tumbling machine with objects like chains, brick and stone that make indentations and add custom character, making each board unique. The texture of these boards have a more rustic feel, and are excellent for high traffic areas; as the boards wear, they gain more beauty and character.
BRUSHED:
Nylon brushes out the soft grain and exposes that hard grain of the wood. Light brushing will reveal less texture and hard brushing will reveal more texture. It can also achieve a serusing effect, where lighter wood inside the grain appears where it’s been brushed. A brushed wood flooring texture has better traction, giving it a higher slip rating which is very important, especially in commercial and hospitality projects.
